    Timing Belt

The timing belt in your car, also known as the cambelt, is an important part of the engine. It actually connects the crankshaft to the camshaft, which opens and then closes the engines’ valves where required. If your timing belt breaks, or becomes damaged, this can do serious damage to the rest of your car engine.

Provided that nothing appears to be wrong, we recommend that you get your timing belt serviced and replaced every 100,000 miles, as this is generally the amount of mileage it takes to wear. It is important to note that the timing belt in European cars tends to wear faster, and should be serviced every 750,000 to 800,000 miles. A timing belt replacement cost will also vary depending on the make of your car. We use parts that are specific to the makes and models of cars, and as a result, some pieces are more expensive than others, depending on the brand.

There are signs of a damaged timing belt that you should be aware of, and in case of any of these, you should take your car to a professional auto shop such as N7 Auto Repairs. These signs include:

    • Ticking engine
    • Engine that won’t turn
    • Leaking oil
    • Engine constantly misfires

If you are experiencing any of these, it may be time for a timing belt change. If your timing belt does need to be replaced, we are more than happy to do this for you. Here at N7 Auto Repairs we will fit your car with a new belt that is manufactured specifically for the make and model of your car. This will not only get your car back to peak performance, but will ensure the longevity of these replacement parts, so that you can continue to drive for longer. The timing belt replacement is a quick and easy process, and will not take long for us to complete.

    Clutch

The clutch on a car is a complicated, and necessary component to a car. It is essentially two metal plates that connect and disconnect the engine to the wheels. The engine is connected to the wheels via two rotating shafts. When you want the car to move, the clutch connects the two, and the two become disconnected when you want the car to stop, or to change speeds.

Generally, you clutch should need to be changed or at least serviced every 50,000 miles, however, each car is different, and might last longer or shorter than this. Even if it is not time for your clutch to be serviced, there are a number of signs that your clutch is wearing down and needs to be changed, which you should be aware of. These can include:

    • Difficulty changing gears in a manual car
    • Funny noises when pressed
    • The engine revs, but the car struggles to accelerate
    • The clutch sticks or is loose when you press on it

If you are experiencing any of these while driving, it is advised that you take your car to be checked by a professional mechanic. Driving with a damaged clutch can be unsafe, and can do greater damage to your car. A clutch replacement is relatively cheap compared to the cost of further damaging your engine.

We are more than happy to service your clutch, and let you know whether or not you require any repairs or replacements. A clutch repair or replacement are able to be done quickly on site, to minimize any inconvenience for you.
